In 2018/2019, the total number of students in Portugal in the tertiary education was 385 247.

Of those, 35 755 are international students enrolled in Bachelors, Masters and Ph.Ds programmes.

An additional  17 066 came with the Erasmus program, spending in Portugal a period of 6 to 12 months.  

Two additional target populations need to be considered: 

- international and Portuguese relocated teachers;

- Portuguese students, living away from home while   attending University.
